I Recently had the chance to spend the morning with Lisa in San Diego. We put this together on a whim. As a result, we’re able to shoot completely spontaneously. Starting at her home in PB, the video became a story of her day. Next, we headed down to the Boardwalk. Shooting on the crowded boardwalk was chaotic but fun. Consequently, Lisa had to dodge the crowd and still look amazing doing it. Obviously, she did that!
Run and Gun
Shooting a fashion and beauty video without storyboarding or even a plan can be tricky. As a result, you never know if it’s going to actually work. Luckily for me, I was working with a pro. In other words, it didn’t matter. I really didn’t need to give any direction. I just had to keep up with her.
On the beach the biggest challenge was keeping tourists out of the frame. We shot several takes before getting what we needed. In addition, working with the wind and high morning sun presented their own problems. Keeping the sun and Lisa’s hair off of her face. Likewise, holding the highlights in her hair without blowing out the background.
The Park…
We wanted to get a different color pallet for some of the footage. As a result, we found a local park. I was struggling to come up with an idea that I thought would work with the rest of the footage. We needed some more close-ups. Lisa’s idea to spread her long hair the grass for a close-up was brilliant. Resulting in my favorite shot of the day.
A Few More Close-ups
Finally, we ended the day on the rooftop of her friends’ house. The sun had gone down a bit so it was a great time to get some more close-ups. Basically all I did was try to stay in focus while she came up with all of the looks.
Not a bad way to spend a Sunday!!!
